Over the years we have done branding and logos for many companies, from large corporations to small businesses and charitable organizations. Below is a small sample of some of our work.
Web design and development continues to be our core service offering, and has been since the birth of the company in 1998. That means we have lived and worked through all the technological milestones that have occurred in the past decade and we have learned the best ways to put sites together. While there are many ways to build websites, there are only a few 'smart' ways to build them. We place importance on the ability to expand, update and grow your website as your business grows, so we usually incorporate modular aspects to the foundation of all sites we build. It's easier to build a site right from the ground up then to try to retrofit one later.
Staying on top of technology has always been important to us. That is why we can build sites that are as future-proofed as possible. If you hire us to develop your site, you can be assured that you will get one that not only functions flawlessly, but LOOKS great too. After all, we don't look good if YOU don't look good. The only way we have stayed in business all these years is by making sites that impress people. In fact, 90% of our business over the past 15 years has been referral business, and that is showing no signs of changing anytime soon.
During the build of your website, you can be included in the process as much as you want to be. We enjoy explaining the steps and processes as we go. In fact, we prefer to have a solid, creative relationship with our clients because it just makes development that much better! Communication is key to this process. We will begin by doing our best to learn as much as we can about your enterprise or business. We will invite you to show us other sites that you like, or to give us any design notes or ideas that you may have. We will then work with you to create just the right 'look and feel' for your website, one that properly reflects your image and brand. We may suggest things you haven't thought of. It all tends to work best when we act as partners in your industry.
All websites we build are responsive. Other companies love to make this a 'feature' and charge additional for it, however we see it as a basic inclusion and an essential capability of any modern website.
The word "responsive" refers to the website's ability to respond to whatever type of operating system that the viewer may be using. Believe it or not, smartphones have their own operating systems just like PC's and Macs do. Additionally, a responsive website has a layout structure that adapts, automatically, according to whatever type of monitor it is being viewed on.
For the first time in history, there are more mobile than desktop users accessing the internet. This audience expects feature-rich websites that respond to touch, the dimensions of their mobile device’s screen, and contain information that is relevant to them on-the-go. When building a responsive website, it’s important to consider not only the technological needs of your mobile audience, but also their information needs; quick product info, account access, and location finding are all vital features for a mobile site.
Responsive design isn’t just about shrinking a website; it’s also about providing content that is the most relevant to the mobile user.
Ironically, moving to a smaller device isn’t a herald of a loss in quality — exactly the opposite. Tablets and smartphones are ushering in a new era of HD displays, most notably pioneered by Apple’s Retina technology. High definition screens have 4x the resolution of normal computer screens, which can make your current web graphics look fuzzy. It will be important to keep ahead of the trend and begin converting your website to support high definition in order to prevent corporate brands from looking stale and outdated.
From a maintenance perspective, a responsive website is also the best way to keep information consistent across devices. While many companies opt to create a separate mobile-only website, it can become very easy for the two sites to get out of sync, sometimes to the point where information is absent, out of date, or even conflicting.
Despite our enormous experience level building websites, we know that no one wants to spend gobs of money on their website. Gone are the days when website development was truly a super-specialized task that involved a lot of very difficult, obscure coding. Nowadays there are all kinds of do-it-yourself web builder tools, various CMS Systems like WordPress and plenty of "Build-Your-Own-Website" software titles available. Up until just a few years ago, none of these solutions existed.
So we know that there are plenty of relatively simple ways nowadays to get your web presence up and running. A few of them are actually free, with an agreement to pay a monthly amount for a specific period of time. Some are as low as $99. We can't compete with these types of website solutions, and we don't want to. That's not our market. We are professional, experienced, craftspeople and we started building our first sites in the year 1997. And we have been creating and launching them ever since.
You can certainly try to build a site yourself, in fact, we encourage you to do so. You may not need us. What we are looking for are those clients who have a great idea and want to get a new site off the ground and not waste time learning. Those who have had a site running for years but never really understood how to change or update it. Those who have an existing site that suddenly doesn't work very well because all the customers are using mobile devices to access it. We are professionals and we love to work WITH you to upgrade or redesign your site, and to then teach you how to use it. Our sites come with built-in content management which means you have unlimited potential for updating the site yourself once it is launched. We show you the ropes and then set you free. And if you ever need help or have a question, we're there with just a phone call or email.
If you have been thinking about updating your site, give us a call and we can explain how inexpensive it may be to do just that.
In this business, nothing stays still for more than a moment. New technologies are being invented and produced at breakneck speed. We think of keeping up with it as a sport. If some new way of doing something comes out that's better than the old way, we'll adopt it, learn it, and put it on your site. That's our way of making your site look and function better, which makes us look better. Then we start scouting for the next new thing.
Search engines have become the most important factor for being found. When the search engines were first created, the developers had no idea that they would become as important and as ubiquitous as they have. Google and Yahoo are now the first place people go to find anything. In the nineties, search engines were merely used for deep research and for fun. Now, people depend on them for everything and in the past decade, users are so accustomed to them that almost everyone uses a search engine as their home browser page and a growing number of web users actually use the search box to enter URL's. In fact, surprisingly, a large segment of the population doesn't even know what the URL window on a browser is. They think that the Google search box is "how" you get to a website. Armed with this knowledge, would you want a website that is NOT search-engine friendly?
We can't stress it enough. CSS is the architecture of today and the only way to compete with the millions of other sites out there is to have your website designed using CSS. As recently as five years ago CSS was not the best idea because many web browsers did not support it properly. Now, it is universally compatible and it not only offers more flexibility to the web designer creatively, it is de rigeur in order for your site to be well-indexed and highly ranked in all the major search engines.
We actually study Google's webmaster guidelines. Ask your current webmaster if he knows anything about that. We also read WebPro News, SiteMagic and Technology Online. We work with all the latest versions of software. We study new ideas and technology as soon as they are made public. And we translate this knowledge into every website we build.
While a liberal use of flash is a no-no in the world of search engine optimization, we know how to use it while still keeping your site lean and mean. We are experts at creating text-rich, search engine friendly websites that look amazing and still have animated elements that grab and hold the viewer's attention. It's all a matter of integrating flash elements into the site in such a way that everything looks integrated and consistent.
And we do other things. Like using liberal amounts of CSS in the site design; using favicons to identify your website on the browser tab; not using URLS (domain names) that are too long to fit in the address bar; implementing page titles that fit and look good on browser tabs; using alt tags liberally not only for search engine access but for accessibility (see below). We think these things through so that your site will be designed to meet all of today's important standards.

The Target corporation actually got sued for not having a website that was accessible to their web viewers with disabilities. Their site was not designed with the features that allow the visually impaired to use it. "Your website should be available to anyone, anywhere, anytime on anything", according to Matt Bailey, president of SiteLogic. And the same features that allow the visually impaired to use a site are also the features that the search engines need to "see" your site, since in effect, all search engines are blind too.
Website design has gone through several transformations in the past 15 years. And now, today, since we have ridden that ride, we know it's time to go back to the basics. The most successful websites nowadays are built with a very basic structure and shy away from big, long-loading music and sound-effects filled flash presentations of the mid-nineties. People want to get in and get out. Find what they want, and find it fast. There are of course, exceptions, and there are still industries for which exotic, large scale flash presentations might work well, such as entertainment. But in general, the trend is heading backwards. To the basics.
Our in-house video production services may be just what you're looking for. It's important to note that we are not a web design company who just decided to add videos to our list of service offerings; we actually are video and film professionals who decided to create a web development company. Film is our native language.
So if you've been thinking about a promotional video or a commercial for your product or services, ask about how we can help you. You might be surprised how inexpensive it is to create a professionally produced spot. Do you need a way to help customers learn how to properly use your product? Do you need to cite examples of how your service can change lives?
We are industry-experienced and can not only help you prepare your message, but get it turned into a polished production that can be displayed on your website and and on social media outlets. We've earned 3 Primetime Emmys, 5 MPSE Golden Reels and multiple nominations.
Dave Eichhorn founded the company in 1998 --- a time when websites were still somewhat of a luxury for businesses. There was no consensus back then that the internet would have anything to do with the way business was done. But he persisted and one-by-one he got clients. And one client talked to another and before long he was able to take his ad out of the paper. (Incidentally, Wild Planet hasn't advertised since 1999).
By sticking to his original business ethic of creating quality, handmade original websites and providing the best customer service possible, he was able to grow the business quickly, and within a few short years the business was booming. It seemed that his company was generating it's own "buzz". And his original websites were getting noticed.
In 2003 Dave decided to jump ship from his well-established film & television career and devote all of his attention to the care and feeding of Wild Planet. And he has never looked back.
We have always offered hosting and maintenance for every site we build. In fact, 80% of our web design clients have been hosting with us on one of our popular maintenance plans since they first built their site. We even have a few clients who have been with us since the late 1990's!
Many don't realize that in order to be effective, a site has to not only grow and change, but it has to advance as technology advances. In some cases, it is imperative. Take the following instance, for example. The hosting company decides to upgrade their operating system. Suddenly your website starts displaying funny errors, or the site stops coming up at all. Why? Because the hosting company is not responsible for your site, they are only responsible for their hosting services. In this case, the components on the website need to be upgraded so that the site remains compatible with the hosts new operating system. This is the kind of thing we take care of - before it becomes an issue. Ask us about our worry-free all-inclusive site maintenance packages - so you can focus on running your business.
If you're new to the world of creating websites, you might find yourself asking yourself "What Is Web Hosting?". Maybe you have some idea about what hosting is but you're not too sure.
Web hosting refers to a service that makes your website available to your users. In general, most websites are intended to be viewed by anyone on the Internet, at any time. If you want anyone on the Internet to be able to view your website at any time, you need to make sure your website is running on a computer which is connected to the Internet 24 hours per day, 7 days per week (24/7).
Another way to put it: Hosting is the business of housing, serving, and maintaining files for one or more Web sites. More important than the computer space that is provided for Web site files is the fast connection to the Internet. Most hosting services offer connections on T-carrier system lines. Typically, an individual business hosting its own site would require a similar connection and it would be expensive. Using a hosting service lets many companies share the cost of a fast Internet connection for serving files.
A good web hosting company will provide at least the following services:
If you require specialized server application software such as ColdFusion, SQL Server, or PHP, you will need to check that the hosting provider supports this.
Once you start looking for a web hosting provider, you will notice there is a very large difference in how much they charge. You will also notice that most web hosts have multiple hosting plans, each at different prices. Any good web host will allow you to upgrade a plan later on if required, so don't feel as though you need to start off on a plan that costs more than you need.
You can do it yourself out of your garage, or you can pay for better facilities with all the essential plumbing and security features. For an office this would mean renting at a business centre. For your website this means paying for space on a highly specialized computer server within a dedicated hosting facility.
Just like an office directory listing, your website has a physical address that maps the exact location of the website within a hosted server. These physical addresses have their own 411 or yellow pages directory which is called Domain Name System (DNS).
The DNS directory is like a GPS (Global Positioning System) for your website, and shows the route between your site's URL (www address) and the hosted servers location shown by their Internet Protocol (IP) address. The IP address is a unique number that identifies the physical location of a computer in a similar way that a postal code tracks a physical office location.
The high configuration computers that host your files are called web servers. In hosting facilities, these are connected to high-speed fiber optics with near 100% uptime. From your home or garage you may get a lower quality of connection than that typically available from companies dedicated to hosting.
Shared Hosting (Virtual Hosting): As high configuration servers are expensive to set up, it is common to share their space across many websites. Each website has their own web address and domain name. This economical solution suits businesses and individuals desiring an online presence with minimal involvement and budget.
There are some providers who offer free web space, typically with basic features for personal web pages and mostly supported by advertisements.
Just remember, even though it will be advertised, there's no such thing as 'free hosting'.

We've been creating, launching and maintaining websites since 1998. We were actually designing websites while the guys who started WIX and Squarespace were still in diapers. Google didn't exist in 1998. And back then, GoDaddy sold domain names, and that's all they did.
That kind of experience means that we have figured out the basics. We've also figured out the stuff that can only be learned from years of 'doing'. Like what our customers really need before, during and after site development. Like how to choose the right foundation to build your site on, in order to prevent issues down the road. And maybe most importantly, how to help you manage and market your new website.
We've designed and built over 140 custom websites for a huge assortment of business types. 99% of our clients came to us as the result of referrals. So we are pretty certain we're doing something right. It's a real crapshoot out there - it seems that everyone now is a web designer. Do you really want to take the risk of hiring someone who may be just getting started? If they don't have a solid record, beware. It's a very difficult thing to 'undo' when you choose the wrong company.
A LOT has happened in the world of web design just in the past year. If your site was built some time ago, you will most definitely benefit from a redesign from the ground up.
